How now??

So a friend of mine sent me this link. Let me say first this video is HILARIOUS! Watch it now!!

What interests me the most is how whoever did this was actually satisfied by the result.
I like one of the comments of how one shouldn't struggle to do something they can't do easily. Heck, they should've just used a van and made that van crash (or look like it crashed) rather than doing stuff out of their ability.

Anyway, as you were

Self Taught vs Schooled

Hello world!
So I saw this interesting article on African Digital Art this morning. It was basically about self-teaching versus going to school and doing a course, and the problems with this in Africa (though I thought it was referring more to Kenya than any other country).

Working with Dingbats

Hello peoples!
So have you ever taken the time to browse all your fonts? If you're anything like I am, you probably have hundreds of them. There's tons of places to find fonts, but this post isn't about where to find posts, it's about how to work with what seem like the most pointless fonts: Dingbats! These are fonts like Webdings, Wingdings etc Click the title to read the full article.

AfterEffects - Create a Circular Pre-loader and Preset

Hey guys!
In this quick tutorial, I'm going to be showing you how to create a spinner like the one in the title above, but we're going to make it very editable so it can be used for various things (heck, might as well save it as an animation preset while we're at it).
So let's get started!

Coming Soon - Expression Basics eBook

Hello one and all!
It's been a good year, and it only gets better.
I've written a little eBook that goes a few steps before my previous expression posts that should bring you up to speed...

Presenting "After Effects Expressions Basics". 25 pages of fun times with expressions. Learn about using common expressions, arrays and all sorts of awesome stuff. Best of all, it's gonna be free :-D

I'm currently going through the final edits so expect it in the course of the week for download right here on i2c.

What would you like to see in the eBook?

  • I'm making some changes to the links at the top/bottom of the page. The site won't go down or anything, but I'd like to hear suggestions on what to add at the top/bottom considering web etiquette.
  • I'm bringing back the title images for the blog, just to brighten things up. Also, I'm working on getting some video tutorials and vlog posts up. I finally got a full-time HD camera (while I wait for my video-capable DSLR) and my internet has become a bit better so stay tuned. Big plans for i2c!

Working with Tutorials

What's up, guys!?
So I was surfing teh interwebs checking out videos for 3D tracking (since I've been looking into getting into it) and I realized something shocking!
As good as people are on the net (and by good I mean really good), it really pains me to see someone using something straight off a tutorial and just changing around the text.
Now, you can see from the link above that the guy really knows what he's doing when it comes to VFX (and the soundtrack is epic) but when you come to around 12 seconds into the video, you'll see something very familiar...
So, I've decided to write a little lecture talk on understanding tutorials:

New Buttons

Hey everyone.
I figured the buttons at the top of the blog are starting to look shady (or it's some sort of OCD checking in). Anyway I hooked up some buttons at the bottom of the page and in the "About" page. Check 'em out at the bottom of the blog (below my profile) and tell me what you think.

That is all

Color Correction

Hey people!
So I've been watching local dramas and music videos lately and I couldn't help but notice how no one seems to take the time to do color correction these days.
It's sad, really! The contrast, the colors, they could all use some tweaking, especially when exporting from tape (so I believe, am I wrong?)

Using Expression Controls

Hey guys!
So here's another AE tip as a follow up to the last expressions post. This one is concerning the Expression Controls found in the Effects menu.

10 Things I've Learnt in AE That I Wish You to Know Before it's Too Late

Hey guys!
So it's been a year since I started in After Effects, a very fun and interesting year. We've done action scenes, light sabres, we've had failed videos, experimented, experienced tons of crashes, created presets and struggled with controls we didn't understand until now (and feel quite foolish about it).
I've learnt a lot from AE, it's changed my perspective on some things (and slightly affected my social life) but most of all, it's frustrated me tons of times. There's things I wished I knew sooner, some things I'd like to tell you now (so hopefully you won't go insane like I almost did).
